July 16th Report

Wednesday was the Keene party.  Mr. Keene, his son Mike and myself started of wading behind Stagger Island.  There were plenty of bait hangin around, water was a little off color so it wasn’t a good spot for sight casting.  So we moved further south down the shoreline.  We lucked out there, there was plenty of clear water.  Good thing too, because our original thoughts were to wade fish a little but it must be mating season for stingrays.   They were everywhere!!!  So I poled the boat instead.  We came across some tailing reds.  Nice little school, probably about 20 reds.  Mr Keene casted the fly beautifully and hooked a red.  The only thing was it was the runt of the school but still it was a tight line.

The school spooked out once the fish was hooked and we lost track in which way the went since they split up.  We moved on to Lake Caranuhaca and Greens Lake, there were found sheepshead against the shoreling with there backs out of the water.  We must have had a dozen or more shots at them but we had nothing they were interested in.

Overall the day was successful.  The conditions were nice.  Early morning the wind was blowing 2-4 mph by midday it was blowing about 15-20mph.  The water temp was in the mid 90s.  I the wind keeps this up we may luck into some really nice day with clear water and tailing fish.  Until next time tight lines.

July 11th Report

Picked up a charter in Aransas Pass, TX I was helping out my buddy Capt. Dean “Slowride” Thomas.   I on occasion run charters down south.  I decided to fish Brown and Root Flats, that is actually one of my favorite spots to fish from a kayak.  The wind of course blown like normal.  We had an early morning start.  We found birds working the drop off first thing in the morning but nothing was underneath them.  I was really hoping to pick up some trout.  No luck there though.  So we paddled towards the spoil islands and we found a mullet convention.  Mullet were blownin up and scattering all over the place.  Within the mullet there was small trout and lady fish.  We also manage to sneak up on a school of reds and we pick one up there.  We moved further down and I spotted a pod tailing but they didn’t last long they felt us there I guess.  We come onto several more schools of reds moving.  They want nothing to do with us.  Towards the end of the trip we can the Sail boat Channel and found a porpoise swimming around feeding.  All in all it was a decent day.  Beautiful day on the water.

July 8th Report

Fished with Mr Ochoa and his Austin on Wednesday the 8th.  Wind was a little stronger than the day before.  We still managed to pick up a couple of fish.  The tide was little slack so not as much action as the previous days.  Hardly any sign of reds or flounder movin around.  Water temp in the high 80s.

July 7th report

Had a chance to take out Fred Dunkin on fly fishing trip.  The reds were in the same pattern as the day before.  The wind was up so it was little hard to do some fly casting.  The tide was moving but the flow was not as good as the previous day.  Still had a chance to see a far amount of reds though.   Water temp was in the mid 80s, with an out going tide.

July 6th Report

Fished the Rodriquez family on sunday the 6th.  We got into tailing reds, some of the reds were also cruzin with the backs out of the water, and flounder going insane.  They were flipping and cartwheeling out of the water.  What a sight.  The rain caught up to us and cooled us down.  Over all it was a decent trip.  The water temp was is the mid 80s.  The brown and white shrimp were coming out of the back marshes with the out going tide.  So this put the reds and flounder in feeding mode.

June Fishing Report

June was tough for me.  The wind was blowing throughout the month and it never held up whatsoever.  I cancelled a fair share of charters due to weather which I didn’t really want to do, but I had no other choice.  Safety is a big issue with me and during really windy days it’s just not fun being out there and potentially getting hurt.  So for those whom I cancelled charters with I am deeply sorry but now things are going really good

 Bruce with a nice redfish

On the days we did get out we faired well and overall it was great fishing.  There were several days where we were on some decent fish but they seemed to be smaller trout, but towards the end of June I was able to find a lot of tailing redfish.  Reds cruising with their backs out of the water and flounder busting bait made for some awesome trips.  Below are a few pictures from the trips.
